Mentoring and Coaching
CNVC certified trainer since 1989, registered dietitian since 1983, and author of Eat by Choice, Not by Habit, an NVC inspired book, Sylvia enjoys offering individual and couples NVC coaching and mentoring to facilitate and support you in meeting more of your needs in relationship with yourself and with others. Her intention is to listen with empathy, creating a safe space for you to find your own clarity and self-connection; she also suggests experiential exercises and life experiments to supplement your learning and growth. 6 Month Class
Meets twice each month and the price includes the workshop fees for a 3 day retreat in the winter. Room and board at retreat is an additional $150 approximately and is paid at the time of the retreat.
Requested tuition: $85 - $99 per month or $499 - $550 if paid in full at the first class. Limited to 12 participants. For a more complete description, see year course. 6 month class is simply a shorter version of this.

Year Course
Now in its 6th year. I’ve lost track! Meets
twice each month and the fees includes the workshop tuition
for a 3 day retreat in the winter. Room and board at the retreat
is an additional $150
approximately and is paid at the time of the retreat usually between February to April. This course is limited to 12 committed participants. Once each month is used as a practice session for any personal work using role-plays and once each month is used as a session for practicing the work through experiential exercises, dyad and triad practice. The idea for a year course sprang forth because of the frustration I sensed in peoples' more sporadic practice of the process. The real key to internalizing this work for yourself is to practice this work on an ongoing basis.

The year course is designed for those of you who are interested in any of the following:
- Consistent practice of NVC on an ongoing committed basis
- Would like to someday become trainers
- Want to share these skills with people in your lives; feeling competent and skilled in doing so
- Wanting to develop a more cohesive and viable giraffe community
- Would like to mentor with us in a small group and one on one basis People often say: "When will I ever get this process? How long does it take?" This is your chance to make a commitment to yourself and to learn the process; to breathe in into every pore of your being and then practice some more.
This work is about practicing and practicing and practicing. You will never get it done and you can't get it wrong, so let's have fun!
Requested tuition:
$695 - $750 if paid in full at the beginning of the first class
or $77 - $85 per month
If you would like to speak with any past participants before
you make this commitment, let me know and I will arrange a match.
Other Offerings:
Individual, couples or family communication coaching sessions in person or by phone
Host an introductory session by gathering at least 5 other friends, family or colleagues and I will come to your location
Invite me into your workplace to offer training
NVC and Money
My consciousness in using the NVC process is that money is a strategy to meet needs. When I offer to facilitate classes, sessions, workshops and retreats, I want to meet my needs for contribution, meaning, connection, and growth. I also want to meet my need for support in my livelihood through teaching NVC rather than seeking other work to sustain me. Hoping to meet these needs, I ask
that each person contribute the most they can comfortably and from a place of joy.
At the same time, I have a commitment to making NVC available to all people regardless of their financial means and would like to reach people for whom the requested fees would be prohibitive. This meets my needs for inclusion and justice. My request is that each person contribute what they would like taking all of this into account.
I am aware that "money" is a charged issue for most of us in this culture. In this context, I want to maximize my own and others' opportunities to consider how to shift our relationships to money through NVC. One of my strategies is to create a sliding scale with plenty of room to move in. I hope that each person will consider the sliding scale an opportunity to consider the variety of needs that exist within your relationship to money – your needs for sustainability, security, ease, comfort, and contribution, among others. It is my hope that each person would consider your needs along with mine described above, and arrive at an amount that reflects your financial reality grounded in your needs. Hoping to meet both of our needs, I request that each person contribute the most that you would like to. My fees are negotiable for those who would be prevented from coming for financial reasons.
